The Victorian Alliance of San Francisco brings back its house tour after a five-year hiatus and features five glittering homes in the Alamo Square neighborhood, known for the city’s most iconic Victorians.

This year’s tour of historic Victorian homes is holiday-themed and boasts five homes in the Alamo Square neighborhood, lavishly-decorated for Christmas and the holidays. Attendees will have the opportunity on the tour to see the main floor principal rooms of each home, decorated in high-Victorian style, and will learn about the history of the Alamo Square area and each home (complete with recommended walking paths). Docents in each home and tour leaders will provide stories about the homes, their histories, decorations, and why the homes are decorated in certain ways.

The Victorian Alliance of San Francisco Victorian Home Holiday Tours will be held on  Sunday, December 10th from 3-7 PM. The locations of the specific homes will be revealed closer to the tour date.

The public is invited to view the homes and their holiday decorations for the price of a ticket; proceeds from the ticket sales will help the Victorian Alliance of San Francisco continue its  mission to preserve historic buildings in the City. Tickets are $50 for adults; $40 for Members; $40 per person for Groups of 10 or more; and $10 per child ages 11-17, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Visit TourVictorians.com to purchase tickets. Tickets are limited. To join the VASF Membership is $45 per year, $35 for seniors and students.

The Victorian House Tour is an important event for the VASF as it raises funds for its Grants Committee. The Committee offers grants to repair and restore publicly-accessible elements of San Francisco’s heritage.

Over the last 50 years, the Alliance has donated nearly $500,000 to various preservation projects across San Francisco. Past grants have included funding to repair and restore the Palace of  Fine Arts, numerous  projects within city parks, and in historic buildings such as gold leafing for the SF downtown Mechanics Library signage, leaded-glass restoration at the Castro Theater, and furniture reupholstery at the Haas-Lilienthal House in collaboration with SF Heritage. Proceeds from the Alliance’s 2018 Lower Haight/Hayes Valley tour were dedicated to helping fund the restoration of WPA-era artist Reuben Kadish’s Dissertation on Alchemy, a fresco on display at the Haight Street Art Center.

The Victorian Alliance's 2023 Holiday House Tour in Alamo Square is dedicated to one of our long-time members, Joseph Pecora, local historian and author, and, most important, avid collector of vintage Christmas decorations. His collection was legendary, and he passionately sought out vintage Christmas to the end of his life. Most importantly, he shared his presentation annually with his lovely Victorian home, decked out in the most extravagant display imaginable. When you think of vintage Christmas decorations, think  of Joe. We dedicate this Holiday Tour to him. He inspired us all to unabashedly celebrate and display Christmas.
